Itinerary
You land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. When the airport formalities are complete, your guide welcomes you and drives you to your hotel.
Overnight: Hilton Gardens Inn
The city tour today includes Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, where you watch young elephants with their keepers at feeding time and in the mud bath.
You also see the Karen Blixen National Museum, associated with the famous film Out of Africa. Close by is the Jock Leslie-Melville Nature Education Centre, a sanctuary for Rothschild’s giraffes, where you can feed the giraffes from the central platform and find out more about them.
Drive Time: Approximately 4 hours
After breakfast you drive to Amboseli National Park, where you stay for the next three nights. If you prefer, you can fly there from Nairobi.
Amboseli is one of the leading safari areas in Kenya. It is well known for its views of Mount Kilimanjaro and its big elephant herds, and for buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, lions, leopards, cheetahs, wildebeests and antelopes.
Activities may include:
- Game drives
- Nature walks
- Hike to Observation Hill
- Birding
- Boat cruise on Lake Amboseli
- Visit to the Masai community
After breakfast there is an early game drive through open savannah woodland, at the hour when the animals are active and the views are clearer.
After lunch you visit a local Masai community to learn about their culture, their traditional dances, their dress and food, and the way they live.
The day begins early with a hot air balloon safari over Amboseli, looking down on the park, the savannah and the wildlife.
Later there is a boat cruise on one of the lakes or swamps in the park, with birds and water-loving wildlife to look for.
Drive Time: Approximately 5 hours
After breakfast you leave for Lake Naivasha, with a short stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint.
You arrive in time to check in and have lunch. In the afternoon an unhurried boat cruise takes you to Crescent Island, a private island sanctuary often called one of the best-kept secrets of Naivasha.
Lake Naivasha lies in the Great Rift Valley. It is known for its acacia trees, for Mount Longonot, and for birds, hippos, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and other wildlife.
Drive Time: Approximately 4 hours
You leave for the Masai Mara National Reserve and arrive in time to check in and rest before an evening game drive.
The Masai Mara is one of the most famous protected areas in Africa, known for the Big Five: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. It is just as famous for the Wildebeest Migration, which usually takes place between June and November.
You are up before dawn for a hot air balloon safari over the plains of the Masai Mara. The flight lasts about one hour, depending on the weather, and finishes with a bush breakfast in the Mara.
After lunch you visit a Masai village, where you meet and talk with local people, watch traditional dances and learn more about their culture.
After breakfast you set off on a full-day game drive across the Masai Mara.
Large herds of herbivores live in the reserve, along with cheetahs, leopards and many other species. More than 400 species of bird have been recorded here, and there are few better places in Africa to see the Big Five.
A picnic lunch is taken at the migration point on the Mara River. A rest follows, and then a game drive late in the afternoon.
There is an early morning game drive, and then you return to the lodge for breakfast.
You check out and fly to Nairobi. When you land, we drive you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight out.
