Visit Congo
Deep rainforest, rare gorillas and the wild centre of the continent.
Plan a Congo SafariWhy Congo
Nowhere else in Africa is quite like Congo. It is a land of immense rainforest, rare primates, great rivers, volcanoes, strong culture and beauty in its rawest form.
Do not expect a standard safari. Congo is for people who want to go further and wilder, with a real sense of adventure. The forest hums with life, the landscapes seem as old as time, and each day feels like exploration.
The Democratic Republic of Congo lies in Central Africa. Its many neighbours include Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia, Angola, the Republic of Congo, South Sudan and the Central African Republic. Its size, the variety of its wildlife and the depth of its cultures make it one of the most absorbing countries in Africa.
Come here if you want to leave the familiar safari circuit behind. A trip to Congo is not about collecting sights. It is about entering country that remains huge, natural and close to the wild heart of Africa.
Gorillas, rainforest, rivers, culture, conservation or plain adventure may draw you. Whatever the reason, Congo gives you a journey that is bold, personal and impossible to forget.
Where to go in Congo
Eastern Lowland Gorilla Trekking
Kahuzi-Biega National Park, close to Bukavu in the east, is one of the natural treasures of Congo. It protects tropical forest and volcanic highlands, and it is home to the eastern lowland gorilla. These gorillas are bigger than their mountain cousins and live only in a small part of Central Africa.
You go into dense forest with trained guides and trackers who know the ground, know the gorillas and understand how carefully this fragile place must be protected. The encounter is hushed, humbling and stays with you.
Rainforest and Nature Experiences
Some of the richest rainforest in Africa grows in Congo. It teems with primates, birds, insects, plants and shy creatures that many travellers will see nowhere else. Nothing here is hurried or staged: the forest is natural, raw and all around you. For anyone who loves nature, that is where the magic lies.
Forest walks, guided nature outings, birding and visits to conservation projects show why Congo matters so much to the biodiversity of the continent.
The Congo River Experience
The Congo River is one of the legendary waterways of Africa. For generations it has shaped trade, culture, travel and everyday life across the region. From the river you see another side of the country: life on the banks, local boats, fishing villages, busy landing places and broad stretches of open water. Many visitors find it gives their journey a new dimension.
Time on the river can be worked into a cultural, city or nature trip, depending on your route.
Culture, Music, and Local Life
Congolese culture reaches far beyond the country’s borders. Its music, dance, fashion, food, art and storytelling are famous, and local traditions remain strong. Wildlife and scenery are only part of a visit here; the people and their culture matter just as much.
You can wander local markets, eat Congolese food, hear the music and watch the dancing, meet community guides and learn how daily life is lived in different regions.
