Itinerary
You leave Lusaka for the Lower Zambezi Valley. As the road drops into the valley the view opens out: the river, the escarpments, acacia trees and quiet, wild country.
At Kiambi Safari Lodge you settle in and enjoy the easy atmosphere beside the Zambezi. Later in the afternoon you go out on a sunset cruise, a gentle first meeting with the river and its wildlife. In the softening light you may see elephants at the water, hippos in the shallows and birds coming in to roost on the banks.
After the cruise you come back to the lodge for dinner and a restful night by the river.
Meals: Lunch and Dinner
After breakfast your guide explains how to paddle, how to stay safe on the river and what to expect. When everyone is ready the canoe safari begins, downstream through quiet channels and beautiful river scenery.
Nobody hurries. You have time for the sounds of the river, the wildlife moving around you and the wide views of the Lower Zambezi. A support boat stays close with the crew and supplies, which keeps the trip comfortable and safe.
Morning tea and lunch are served on the bank. In the afternoon you paddle on to Buffalo Beans Island, where camp is already set up, with tents, mattresses, wash stations, a bucket shower and a drop toilet.
Dinner is cooked in the open, and the evening is spent round the campfire under the stars.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
You wake to the sound of the river and have breakfast in the wild before going on downstream. The day brings more hours on the water, with new views of islands and wooded banks, and wildlife to watch for.
An important part of the day is a visit to a village beside the river. You see something of daily life on the Zambezi, including the school, small shops and the places where the community gathers. It is a simple, human encounter that gives the safari cultural depth.
After tea and lunch prepared by the support crew, you paddle on to the next campsite on the bank. The evening is spent in the wild, with dinner, the campfire and the peace of the Zambezi.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
The last morning starts with breakfast in the open air. Then you board a motorboat for the scenic ride back to Kiambi Safari Lodge, past islands and wildlife areas, with sweeping views of the Lower Zambezi.
You have lunch at Kiambi and then drive back to Lusaka, where the safari ends. You take home memories of still water, wild riverbanks, open skies and one of the most rewarding safari experiences in Zambia.
